John Koval
Occupation:Director of Development, Coburn Development
Solar Contribution:Bringing solar energy to an entire neighborhood
Location:Boulder, Colorado

Though a designer by training, John Koval found his calling in development when he was introduced to the work of Coburn Development. Now, as Coburn’s Director of Development, Koval has found himself executing projects similar to the ones that drew him to the company in the first place. In concert with the city of Boulder, Colorado, John Koval and Coburn Development created the diverse and energy efficient neighborhood known as Holiday. Koval describes what draws Boulder residents to this pioneering community, “People love the idea that we can derive energy form our natural resources, like the sun.”

The solar efficiency of this neighborhood, however, does more than earn its residents money every month from the electric company. Koval says that “what Holiday has done is put a lot of like-minded people in the same environment and they can really share ideas and resources. It really has become a neighborhood.” Like the residents of his Holiday Neighborhood, Koval believes in the importance of renewable energy and its use around the globe. The Coburn Development Group continues to execute sustainable development projects in Boulder and throughout Colorado.
