Resident:Chennai, India

Indu’s favorite part of his job is reading stories to the elementary students, and he always has a cheerful spark in his captivating blue eyes, which he says he has had ever since he can remember. This recessive gene comes from his father’s side of the family, yet none of his siblings or his own children received these blue eyes. Seeing as he is a librarian, his eyes are a key component to performing his job.
K.P. Indra Simhan (Indu) is a loved librarian at the American International School- Chennai, India. Originally from Kerala, Indu has worked as a librarian in New Delhi, India; Kuwait City, Kuwait; Manila, Philippines; Nagoya, Japan; and now is in his third year in Chennai.
While he loves his job, he didn’t always want to be a literacy advocate. When he was in school, he had dreams of going into medical school, however, he wasn’t one of the few selected. His school soon thereafter started a program called Library Science, so he joined and became a librarian which was then his second choice. Little did he know at that time that it would soon become his first, and a blessing to all of us who are fortunate enough to know him. Indu enjoys his career, and can’t think of working as anything else.
“As a librarian, it’s my job to provide a study environment for students – to provide materials for research and enjoyment by way of mixed media, and help students learn how to use the materials. I like being a librarian because it opens up my mind, and [I] also [enjoy] working with the students.”
